Mary Ruth Hibler, 102, died Feb. 11, 2010, at Grace Healthcare in Benton, Ark.
She was born in Altamont on Sept. 30, 1907, to Elwood and Jessie (Tedrick) Snyder.
She married William L. Hibler on Sept. 2, 1928. They retired to Springdale, Ark., from Trenton, in 1973. They moved to Butterfield Trail Village in Fayetteville, Ark., in 1994, and she resided there until September, 2009.
Her husband preceded her in death after 71 years of marriage. Also preceding her was a brother, Loren Snyder and a sister, Eva Snyder Root.
Mrs. Hibler was an active member of the Rebekah Assembly of Kansas, joining in 1933 and serving as state president of the Kansas Chapter in 1950-51. She was a member of Eastern Star and held the positions of Worthy Matron and District Grand Matron, a member and past president of the Springdale American Legion Auxiliary, and a member of the Springdale Book Lover’s Club.
Mrs. Hilber received the Honorable Volunteer Service Award from the Department of Veteran’s Affairs for 21 years (20,746 hours) of volunteer service to Veterans at the VA Medical Center in Fayetteville. She received a prestigious award from Northwest Medical Center Auxiliary in Springdale for 21 years (2,663 hours) of volunteer service at Springdale Memorial Hospital. She also served as a volunteer at Butterfield Trail Village for more than 10 years.
Survivors include one nephew, John R. Hibler of Oklahoma City, Okla.
