BSA was founded as an outlet to prepare every eligible youth in America to become a participating citizen and leader. The Boy Scouts of America provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.
The Crossed Arrows District covers the southeastern part of the Pony Express Council including the counties of Daviess, Caldwell, Clinton, and DeKalb. Major towns include Gallatin, Winston, Cameron, Hamilton, Lathrop, Maysville, Plattsburg, Polo and Stewartsville.
Earlier this year, the Boy Scouts of America kicked off a multi-year 100th Anniversary celebration which will include major national events, activities, and initiatives to engage nearly three million youth and 1.2 million volunteers; an estimated 50 million Scouting alumni; and the general public.
There are nine units of Boy Scouts in Daviess County, according to Bryan Davidson, district executive. We’ll take a closer look at the rich history of the local BSA in the following issues of the North Missourian.
