An investigation is continuing into the death of a Polo veterinarian, Vic Johnson, 44, who died of an apparent gunshot wound Jan. 22. Johnson took over the Polo Veterinary Service owned by Joe Barnes last October.

On Jan. 21, at 3:06 p.m., the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call on a shooting located on Highway 116, west of Polo. Upon arrival a white male was observed suffering from a gunshot wound. The white male was transported to Liberty Hospital and on Jan. 22 the white male was pronounced dead.

Caldwell County Coroner Dana Brown confirmed an autopsy has been performed on the victim, who authorities report having an address of 2833 SW Highway 116, (the same address as the Oxbow Veterinary Service, which Johnson renamed after taking over the vet service from Barnes). The property also has a house on it.

Johnson is from Rolla, where a memorial service is reportedly being planned for Feb.7. Johnson is survived by his wife, Christina, and children, Sophia and Victor Andrew II. He is also survived by his mother, Vera, and several other family members.
