Due to the latest increase by Veolia Trash Service, the Pattonsburg Board of Aldermen voted during their recent meetings to raise the trash rates from $11.15 to $12.50 per individual household.
The board voted to raise water rates by a factor of 10% to reflect the increase of cost of production.
This increase is for Public Water Supply District No. 1 and the residents of the city and will show on the February bills.
City Clerk Karen Shepherd explained that residents have already had small raises in their water rates.
For instance, the board voted to raise the water rate with a 2% increase going into effect. Jan. 1. Those recent increases are factored into the 10% increase.
The board will look into tying sewer rates to water rates.
In other business at the Dec. 16 meeting, bills were reviewed and paid.
There were some questions as to the procedure of the work that was done on Well #5 by Layne Christensen Company and what the city was billed. The council decided that the bill would not be paid until further investigation.
The water department has three CDs up for renewal. The board carried a motion to keep one CD on a 91 day renewal and to set two CDs on a six month renewal, with a higher interest rate if at all possible.
The bucket truck will continue to be leased to the fire department.
The board carried a motion to pay insurance with Cretcher, Heartland, United Fire Group.
Economic Developer Richard Mooney reported that the alternative energy company appears to have favored a different site. He requested approval of a new website design from Tower Innovations, which is made especially for local governments and municipalities. He has been looking into a few of the new grant funding opportunities that have recently become available. He will do more research into the program stipulations before asking for approval to apply.

The city clerk is still waiting on a breakdown of prices from Travelers Insurance Group.
Salem Township has used tires that would fit the city’s grader. The aldermen would like to approach the township to see how much they would take for the tires.
Karen Shepherd has some overtime hours due to Eddy’s medical leave. And the board voted to pay for her overtime.
A bid was put in for snow removal in town, but the council felt that the city does not have adequate funds available to cover the price.
Economic Developer Richard Mooney said the Visit Historic Pattonsburg brochure is seeing results. He has received emails from people who picked up the brochure and emailed back for more information. Several new tools have been made available for economic development. Some of these are in the form of new funding and/or grant opportunities. Others are in the form of new government programs.
