During their regular meeting of the Gallatin Board of Aldermen held Jan. 25, City Administrator Zac Johnson reported that he was still talking with USDA regarding the city’s application for the new water plant.

Doug Schulte with Snyder & Associates is planning on attending the next meeting to update the board on the project.

Teddy Holcomb explained what happened on last Saturday’s power outage. He stated that city crews are going to be working on trimming trees for the next month. Also people will be noticing lots of potholes in the streets from the weather but they cannot be fixed until the weather is better and everything is dry.

Police Chief Mark Richards reported on activity from Jan. 11 to Jan. 25, with the following reports taken and tickets given: one assist; two burglary; one property damage; one aggressive dog; two warrant arrest; one peace disturbance; two traffic accidents. There are seven dogs in the pound.

Chief Richards stated that he is getting close to the end of this year’s D.A.R.E. programs. He will be graduating two classes in Gallatin and one from Winston this year. Chief Richards gave an update on condemnations he has been working on.

Bills in the amount of $36,768.28 were approved for payment.

Discussion was held on snow removal; home energy audits; and the collection agency the city has contracted with.

Mr. Johnson submitted a snow removal ad he is going to place in the local newspaper and asked for any input on the ad from the board.

The board talked about placing an ad in the local paper regarding the power outage last Saturday.

Comments by aldermen were made regarding shut off day and placing money in an electric replacement fund.

Discussion was held of a comprehensive plan for the city.

The board entered into closed session pursuant to hiring, firing, disciplining or promoting of employees.

Discussion was held on the mechanical failure of the small clarifier at the sewer plant.
