Superintendent Johnnie Silkett was offered an extension of his two year contract to include the 2011-2012 school year during the regular meeting of the Pattonsburg R-2 Board of Education held Jan. 18.

Pattonsburg has missed five scheduled days of school. Students will be making these days up on Jan. 18; Monday, March 15; Thursday, April 1; Wednesday, May 19; and Thursday, May 20. Other make up days would be added to the end of school from May 21. The scheduled last day at this time is May 20.

The board approved to contract with Bess Sweiger of Bess Photography to replace Scholastic as the Pattonsburg R-II official photographer. Bess Photography will be doing the school pictures, senior composites, sports pictures and homecoming/prom photos. The school board stated that they were very pleased that a highly qualified photographer has set up business in downtown Pattonsburg and the school has the opportunity of doing business with her.

High School Principal Mr. Hodge reported basketball make-up games due to weather: at Newtown Harris Feb. 5 and at Tri-County Feb. 8.

Pattonsburg will be participating in the Gilman City Basketball tournament for the first time the week of Jan. 25 and on Saturday, Jan. 30, the school will be competing in the Junior High Science Olympiad in Maryville.

Ashley Cameron and Haley Slessman were both selected to the 4-State Honor Band and Laura Zimmerman was selected to the 4-State Honor Choir.

Elementary Principal Mrs. Brady reported that at the Jan. 4 in-service, Pre-K–12 teachers worked with MAP/EOC data to identify strengths and weaknesses in the areas of Communication Arts, Math, and Science. The teachers then began discussing necessary changes to see further improvement in all three areas; and the need of kindergarten through second grade to also take part in preparing students for the MAP test that starts in the third grade.

The teachers are finishing up their middle of the year benchmark assessments in both reading and math.

Second quarter awards assembly will be held on Wednesday afternoon.

The fifth and sixth grade basketball games are scheduled: Pattonsburg Tournament: March 8, 10, 12 and 13; North Daviess Tournament: March 15-20; and Winston Shootout: March 25.

Superintendents Mr. Silkett reported on the senior trip. The board approved the destination and dates of the trip. The seniors are going to Chicago, May 16-20. At next month’s meeting the seniors will present an agenda to be approved by the board.

Pattonsburg R-2 is replacing 13 thermostats in the buildings so staff can update them with controllers that turn the heat or air down at night and weekends. The school hopes to regain its money back with the savings in utility cost.

Mid-year adjustments to the budget were made and approved by the board.

The board discussed the School Accountability Report Card. Pattonsburg is accredited by the State of Missouri. The Board reviewed the information and compared it to the state and to the previous year.

The food inspector came on Dec. 18, 2009, and the inspector found the school in compliance with Missouri Health regulations.
