Taxes will be prepared by appointment from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 15, in Gallatin and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16, in Jamesport.

Individuals can begin making appointments Feb. 1.

"Walk-ins might not be helped that day, but we can make an appointment for you," said Becky Simpson, Youth Development Specialist with MU Extension at Daviess County.

"If you are low-income to moderate income, handicapped or elderly, and in need of help with filing your taxes, we will help you at no cost to you," said Dr. Rebecca J. Travnichek, MU Extension family financial education specialist. "Tax returns can also be prepared for high school and college students; as well as individuals and families who do not own a business or plan to use itemized deductions."

The program is staffed by IRS-trained volunteers, who will prepare tax forms and provide e-filing for returns.

To make an appointment, call the MU Extension office at 660-663-3232.

Individuals should bring any W-2, 1098, and 1099 forms, as well as Social Security cards and birth dates for everyone who will be claimed. "It’s a good idea to bring anything you receive in the mail that indicates it is tax related and a copy of last years’ tax return," Travnichek said.
