This rating is granted to less than 6% of U.S. charities. The Better Business Bureau also recognized ADRA for a fifth straight year for displaying high charitable accountability standards. The Chronicle of Philanthropy, the leading news source for charities, placed ADRA in the top 400 U.S. charities again in 2008, something it has done every year since 2004.
In the local area, between 28-30 volunteers worked faithfully during the past year. Together they gave 8,766 hours of service.
Because of the generosity of those who brought their donations of clothing and miscellaneous items to the center, an average of 44 families were helped each week. That is an average of 1,932 persons for the year. A total of over 35,321 articles of clothing were given, 268 household items, 268 pairs of shoes and 6,607 miscellaneous items and 21 layettes for expectant mothers.
The ACSC is also the location for the distribution of the Government Commodities for Daviess County. In the month of October it had 65 families and in the month of November it had increased to 160. The Daviess County Emergency Food Bank also saw an increase.
The ACSC expresses its appreciation to the Emergency Food Pantry, First Baptist Church of Jameson, Winston Cub Scout Pack 167, Tim and Tonya Richardson, Don and Margaret Townsend, Altamont United Methodist Church, Peter and Debbie Alan, Daviess County Business Women’s Club, CWF Christian Women’s Fellowship, FCCLA, Dungy’s Market, Chi-Rho, Lions Club of Gallatin, Debbie Heldenbrand, Heart of American Champs, Gene and Ann Schweizer and daughter Beth, Daughters of the American Revolution, Farmers Bank, BTC Bank, Tim Tadlock, Tom Garnett, Terry Implement, McWilliams Family Funeral Home, Yoders Discount Store, and many others.
Marie Toney was a busy lady during Christmas with her Toys for Daviess County Children. She had the ACSC dining room and one other room full of things to give away. The parents signed up ahead of time and then on an appointed date came and picked up the gifts for their children. The Angel Tree project sponsored by the Beta Sigma Phi sonority also brought their gifts to Marie as well. There were 172 children in Daviess County that received Christmas presents from our community. ACSC expressed appreciation to these folks for making the holiday happy for so many children.
Funds from sales at the ACSC Thrift shop helped our community in many ways, with utility deposits, heating fuel, auto fuel, medications, rent, and food. Again, ACSC thanks those customers that shop at the Thrift Shop every week. May the Lord bless our volunteers and this community in the coming year. Special thanks is expressed by Bill and Karen Reed, ACSC directors.
