Gallatin varsity wrestlers won all three duals Tuesday night to come away the big winner from the Maysville Quad. Though forfeits played a big part in their team success, Bulldog grapplers performed well in head-to-head matches.
"Forfeits played a big part in the win against Maysville," said GHS head wrestling coach Barron Gann. "I didn’t feel we wrestled as well as we could have," he added. "Against Maysville, in some of the heads up matches, we wrestled better than we did when we wrestled them at the Trenton Tournament, one of those being Terrill Wood."
"In the other two duals we had a lot of forfeits but in the wrestled matches we took charge and won most of them," Gann stated. "I felt we wrestled better this week, but all the time off has hurt us a little," he added. "This Saturday is going to be a good test for us."
Levi Michener won all three of his matches. Bo Malo was a winner in his lone match. Zack Lollar, Peter Steele, Terrill Wood, Chad Ness, Mitchell Lewis and Myrick McLey all won against Polo opponents.
Overall records for the Bulldogs to date are: Blake Cornett 8-8, Zack Lollar 3-12, Sterling Steele 13-4, Peter Steele 11-5, Terrill Wood 11-4, Chad Ness 11-4, Mitchell Lewis 4-7, Matt Atkinson 9-7, Levi Michener 13-2, Bo Malo 3-0, Jordan Bradley 3-9, Dylan Leeper 9-7 and Myrick McLey 9-6. In junior varsity action this season, Clay Dunlap is 3-0 and Jimmy Dale is 1-1.
In team totals, Gallatin defeated South Holt, 60-17, knocked off host Maysville, 36-26, and rolled over Polo, 66-18, in the four-team meet.
The Bulldogs face a busy schedule now that school is back in session following snow cancellations. They were to compete in the Marshall Tournament last Saturday but that event was cancelled and will not be rescheduled. Gallatin travels to Albany on Thursday and will take part in the Plattsburg Tournament this Saturday.
