Pattonsburg R-2 has been exploring different options for putting a barrier up between Hwy. 69 and the school and board members decided during their meeting held Dec. 21, to purchase rail guard and install it themselves.
It will be installed on the property line 40 foot from the center of Hwy. 69 which would be approximately two foot east of the power line poles. It would run from the north driveway south approximately 200 feet. The decision comes after a vehicle accident in which a car ran off the highway and stuck a school building.
Elementary Principal Mrs. Brady reported attendance was 96% for the month of November. The Christmas program was Dec. 7 with the choir, band and the performance of "A Christmas Carol." The K-second graders went caroling at the Bethany nursing home where the students had a lot of fun. The K-sixth grade went on a field trip to St. Joseph where the students went to the visitor center and B&J Skate Center.
The leadership team and the staff at Pattonsburg are working hard at improving the school and they wanted to make a simple shorter mission statement that every student and staff member could know by heart. The board of education adopted the new Pattonsburg mission statement which is: The educational mission for the Pattonsburg R-II School District is to create lifelong learners through high quality academics and character education.
High School Principal Mr. Hodge reported attendance was 95% for the month of November. Finals and the first semester will end Dec. 22 and school will dismiss at 1 p.m. On Jan. 4 the staff will dig into the curriculums of math, English, and science with the help of Terry Daniel who will facilitate the process.
The K-12 food drive collected 508 items that were given to the senior center and ministerial alliance in Pattonsburg. The high school attended a program on "How to Save a Life" with an emphasis on driver safety and the freshmen and sophomores attended a "situational awareness" program put on by Sergeant Smith to help kids be aware of their surroundings as they become more independent and travel outside of their community. On Dec. 18 the 7-12 graders went on a Christmas outing at Cameron where they skated and or watched a movie.
The school renewed two six-month CD’s.
The school made it official to co-op junior high softball, junior high football and high school football with King City starting in the 2010-2011 school year. School officials believe this will be a great opportunity for the students. Third through sixth grade kids are also invited to participate in the King City youth football program if they chose.
R-2 decided to join the state of Missouri in its pursuit for the "Race to the Top" federal grant.
The board discussed the possibility of applying for the Missouri A+ program. The board believe it will give many more students a chance to pursue opportunities for continued education after high school.
The board has decided to not sell the 10,000 gal. propane tank at this time.
Jan. 18, March 15, and April 1 will be the make-up days due to bad weather. The next Board meeting will be Jan 18 at 7 p.m. in the library.
