The 2009 Missouri Crop Performance Soybean Trials arrived at area Extension offices. This publication is free. The corn trials has not arrived yet.

The soybean trials contain five locations across northern Missouri that would be of interest to local soybean growers. The locations contain Glyphosate resistant and Non-Glyphosate resistant and special trait soybeans.

The Craig site was replanted June 26 after heavy rains fell and the field crusted over, severely limiting emergence. Temperatures dropped in October limiting vegetative growth on late varieties. This may have negatively affected yields of those lines. Soybean overall at the five locations were good this year averaging 54 bushels per acre, even though planting was delayed until June for four of the sites.

The highest yielding Glyphosate resistant soybean at Craig was 63 bushels per acre and the lowest was 44 bushels. At the Albany site, the highest yielder was 56 bushels per acre and the lowest was 40 bushels. Both sites list both Group III and IV maturity group soybeans.

In the Non-Glyphosate resistant soybean, the highest yielder at Craig was 59 bushels per acre and the lowest was 47 bushels. At Albany, the highest yielder was 51 bushels and lowest yielder was 40 bushels.

There are many varieties that yield similar. Always use the LSD to understand what varieties are significantly yielding from others.

Also, the publication contains more than one year’s data of the same variety if entered more than one year. We advise growers to find as much data on a particular variety across as many sites as possible to see how the variety will perform in different environments.
