Quincy Hale, 29, Kansas City, Kan., was arrested Dec. 4 for possession of controlled substance with intent to distribute, class A felony. Hale was arrested during a traffic stop on I-35 by Sgt. M.A. Wilhoit, during which the officer’s K-9 indicated the presence of a controlled substance. Hale was found to be transporting 12 pounds of marijuana. He is currently on parole through the state of Iowa for possession with intent to deliver, and has two prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance. He is being held on $100,000 bond.

Richard K. (Brown) Argo, 33, Gallatin, was arrested Dec. 3 and charged with felony stealing. Between June 30 and Nov. 10, Argo allegedly sold a lawnmower and other items which belonged to his landlord, Dale Buckmaster, without consent. The items are worth approximately $2,000. After he sold the lawnmower to Shawn and Mandy Pettigrew for $200, he borrowed it back from them to return it to the actual owner, Buckmaster. He has not returned the $200 or the lawnmower to the Pettigrews. He is being held on $35,000 bond.

Nathaniel Burnett, 54, Atchison, Kan., was arrested Dec. 7 for failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge of no valid license. He is being held on $2,039.50 bond.

County Commission

James Lewis, bridge supervisor, reported that they will make repairs to equipment this week.

Bills were audited and paid.

Betty Harmison, assessor, met with the commission regarding the reductions in state reimbursements for her office.

Dave Schlegel, Daviess County Care Center, met with the commission regarding the purchase of an ice maker. They have received three bids and will order the lowest priced machine. The county will pay for this equipment from the Mays Estate fund designated for kitchen equipment. He also reported that they have begun the window replacement project.

Ben Becerra, sheriff, met with the commission regarding his budget and other matters.

The commission contacted the Caldwell County Commission regarding the replacement of a low-water crossing on the county line with a culvert. The landowner, Caldwell County and Daviess County will each pay 1/3 of the cost of the tube. The two counties will equally share in the dirt replacement. Daviess County will provide the labor and equipment. Caldwell County will reimburse half of those costs.

In the afternoon, the commission inspected roads in Jamesport Township.

Annie Gibson, prosecuting attorney, met with the commission regarding a road in section 12 of Jamesport Township.

A warrant was issued Dec. 2 for the arrest of Cindy D. Beech for a probation violation on two counts of felony non-support, with bond set at $25,000.
