The 2009 4th Cycle Annual Performance Report (APR) was reviewed during the regular meeting of the Winston R-6 Board of Education held on Nov. 19, in the high school library. Winston R-6 met 11 of 14 areas. This retains the district’s full accreditation status with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Counselor Casey Arambula completed an articulation agreement with North Central Missouri College at Trenton. The agreements will allow students to earn college credit if they attend NCMC in the areas of accounting, microcomputer applications and early childhood growth and development by taking selected classes (accounting 1 and 2, computer applications, or child development) at Winston High School.
Board candidate filing period for the April 6 election will be Dec. 15, 2009, to Jan. 19, 2010. Candidates can file during regular school days. This year’s school board election will consist of two three-year terms. Positions currently held by board members David Neth and Scot Wilkerson are up for election.
Elementary principal reported attendance of 95.68%. October elementary students of the month were Mary Rutherford, grade five, and Garrett Campbell, grade four. November character trait of the month is self-control.
High School principal reported attendance of 94.85%. November students of the month were Rebecca Hiley and Noah Bielby.
Patty Stark updated the board on the school’s early childhood special education program.
The board approved the annual auditor’s report of fiscal year 2008-2009. The report showed fund balances of the Winston R-6 school district at $1,291,083.
The board approved building rental requests.
Job descriptions for bus driver and school nurse were updated.
The board approved program reports in the areas of guidance and counseling, curriculum enhancement program, English as a second language, services for migratory students, and homeless program.
The board approved school board policy updates provided by the district’s policy service, Missouri Consultants for Education. The board reviewed policy 5250, "Uses of Tobacco Products," and took no action.
Michael Pulley was approved as the assistant varsity girls basketball coach.
Linda Warford was approved as the federal programs coordinator.
Gary Clark was employed as a bus driver for the district.
Closed session was held for personnel.
Future dates of importance include: Dec. 8 – all school Christmas program; Dec. 12 – district band performance at Platte City; Dec. 11-19 – HDC basketball tournament at Winston; Dec. 16 school board meeting at 6 p.m.; Dec. 22 – dismiss at 12:45 for winter break.
