On Oct., 13, 1949, Gordon and Cova Spiking were blessed with a wonderful daughter. After graduating from King City High School in 1969, she attended Tarkio College, graduating with a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education and later obtained her Masters Degree in Education from Northwest Missouri State.

Her extraordinary career in teaching kindergarten and elementary children began in Hamburg, Iowa in 1971. Moving to Gallatin in 1974 to teach, she also met her future husband, Don Hemry. Don and Marilyn were united in marriage on June 26, 1977. Together they shared 32 years of love and memories. Marilyn retired from teaching in 2003, to allow her to spend more time helping those less fortunate and to carry on with her devotion and faith in God. With this deep religious conviction, Marilyn was a Church Elder in the First Christian Church of Gallatin, member of the CFW, sang in the choir and was always volunteering to help the sick. She was very active in the women’s PEO group, where she served in many capacities, including president. Marilyn could also be seen delivering meals on wheels to the elderly. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and a member of the Retired Teachers Association.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her father, Gordon Spiking Sr. in 1998.

Surviving Marilyn is her husband, Don Hemry of the home; her loving mother, Cova R. Spiking of King City; a brother, Glenn Spiking and his wife Joanie of Kansas City; brother-in-law Warren Hemry of Gallatin; sister-in-law Martha Sample and her husband Mike of Cordova, Illinois; nieces and nephews Courtney (Spiking) Sonnenberg, Grant Spiking, Carol Spencer, Mark Hemry, Joanna Bird, Sarah Weaver, Mary Elizabeth Sample, David Sample; and 11 great nieces and nephews.

Those of us who knew and loved Marilyn were blessed by her generous spirit, love for children and her faith in God. Her nieces and nephews will always remember her for her generous and kind acts. She is, and will always be loved, adored, and missed by her friends and family.
