Branson’s premier fiddlin’ Cajun entertainer, Wade Benson Landry, will bring his "Swingin’ Cajun Style Show" to Chillicothe’s Gary Dickinson Performing Arts Center at 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 15.
Joining the show will be his wife, Teresa Bowe Landry, and her father, Cuzin’ Pud. The show will feature Cajun music, traditional country, western swing, and gospel music, along with Cajun and country comedy
A 15-year Branson veteran, Landry grew up in Abbeville, Louisiana, and was performing with his father’s band by the time he was 10. By age 18, Landry had won the title of Louisiana Junior State Champion Fiddler twice. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, the New Orleans Jazz Festival and with such country music giants as The Oak Ridge Boys, George Jones and Tammy Wynette, and in the Statesiders Band with Mel Tillis. He has also appeared regularly on television shows such as "Live from the Grand Ole Opry", and the "Tonight Show."
"The program committee for the arts council was looking for a great country show," Shirley Marriott, vice-president of the council said. "We know there are a lot of country music lovers in this area, and we wanted to give them a show they would really enjoy. Several people had mentioned this show to us. Diane Bonderer and Chuck Haney were two of those who called the arts office and suggested the Wade Benson Landry show. Diane and Chuck said people would love it," Marriott said.
"We have had people calling from St. Joe for tickets to this show, and we hadn’t even begun to advertise it," Julie Ashbrook, arts council administrator said. "The people we have talked to who have seen the Wade Landry Benson show say that it is a great show, and that Landry is funny and really talented," Ashbrook said.
"Many people in this area are fans of Cuzin Pud and his daughter Teresa Bow Landry," Chillicothean Dale Whiteside said. "They have been performing country music and comedy together since Teresa was a little girl," he said.
The performance is part of the Chillicothe Area Arts Council 2009-2010 season. Tickets will be available at the door: adults $15 and students $10. For a preview go to www.wadebensonlandry.com and watch Landry perform.
