The Gallatin Police Department has been awarded $1,860 in grant funding from the Office of Justice Bulletproof Vest Partnership program.
The Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP), created by the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant Act of 1998 is a unique U.S. Department of Justice initiative designed to provide a critical resource to state and local law enforcement.
Since 1999, over 11,900 jurisdictions have participated in the BVP Program, with $173 million in federal funds committed to support the purchase of an estimated 450,000 vests. The Office of Justice Programs’ Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) administers the BVP Program.
Gallatin Police Chief Mark Richards applied for this grant back in August in an effort to replace outdated body armor currently in service by the Gallatin Police Department. This is the second time the Office of Justice funding has been awarded to the Gallatin Police Department under Chief Richards the last being $1,244 in grant funding which was awarded in 2004.
"The Gallatin Police Department appreciates the Office of Justice Assistance in helping keep our officers safer on the streets," Chief Richards said.
