I have resigned from the City Council effective Aug. 25. I have had some stress related medical issues from the past resurface that I do not want to have to deal with again.

I sincerely apologize for not fulfilling my obligations to the community. I would like to say that the time I spent with the Mayor, other Council members and the City employees has been an eye opener. We have a great City Administration and a Council that definitely has the best interest of the community at the forefront of every vote. We could not ask for harder working or more dedicated employees than the ones we have on board now.

Gallatin is facing some pretty big problems. Correcting the deficiencies in the water supply and finding a qualified high voltage lineman are just two of the issues that must be resolved in the very near term. Now, more that ever, the City needs the support of the community. It does no good to go back and try to find someone to blame for any of the problems we face. Decisions made in the past were undoubtedly believed to be the best thing to do at the time. Our time and energy now should be spent correcting problems and making sure that they are not repeated. It behooves each of us to be informed of the actions being taken by the Council at each meeting. Suggestions are also always welcome. There has been a lot of talk about the complaining and accusations being tossed around at some meetings. Be that as it may, there are always suggestions that lead to new discussions about different ways to address the problems at hand. You may not always see the results of your input, but it has been considered and hopefully will be implemented where possible.

Thank you for letting me serve for the little time I was able. Hopefully, another employee or Council member will put some notes in the paper from time to time to keep those who do not attend the meetings informed on the workings of the Administration.

Thank you again,

 Speed Nixon
