Superintendent Becky Morris recommended the tax rate be set at 5.45, the same as last year. After concerns regarding the tax rate were expressed by C.A. Prentice, Dovey Loftin, Ashley Deskins, Linda Bohannon, Wayne McNeely and Sue Olson, a motion was made to lower the tax levy to $4.00, but died for lack of a second. A motion to set the tax levy at $5.00 carried by a vote of 4 yes and 3 no. The difference in the change in tax levy from $5.45 to $5.00 (per $100 assessed valuation) will cost the district $40,030.

In other business, the vo-tech bus route was offered to Gary Lanning. The part-time Title I position was offered to Mary McCrary by a vote of 6 yes, 1 abstain. Cheryl Cornett was offered half-time elementary principal position by a vote of 6 yes, 1 abstain.

Mrs. Morris reported on the preliminary AYP result of the district. The school met in communication arts, graduation rate and attendance rate; however, the school did not meet in mathematics this year.

Mrs. Weldon announced that the first day of class is Wednesday, Aug. 19. School will dismiss at 12:30 p.m.

During citizen communications, Bert Chumbley requested that the school board consider an aid for preschool if the enrollment is above 10 students. He shared with the board his concern and felt that if students are not able to attend they could have problems with social adjustment into the school system.

After discussion, the board came to the consensus that the district would not be able to hire an aide at this time.

The financial statement was presented and bills paid.

A motion carried to make changes in the employee handbook under bereavement (Death in Immediate Family) policy to include up to three days of absence with full pay in the case of a death in the immediate family.

Mrs. Morris informed the board of updates and situations that arose this past month. Due to the fact the high school custodian sustained an injury, the district had to hire someone temporarily in order to complete the summer projects before school began.

The Annual Secretary of the Board Report was approved.

The fifth grade communication arts curriculum was adopted as presented.

Next board meeting was set for Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the high school.

The above are unaproved minutes. The North Daviess R-3 School Board Administration held their regular meeting on Aug. 11, in Jameson. Also present were Superintendent Becky Morris; Board Secretary Jeremy Hunter; Kristi Weldon; C.A.
