This is one of those weeks I have had trouble thinking up a topic to write about. I wrestled with my mind for several hours before giving up, almost, but finally settling on something. The topics included a host of timeless subjects ranging from sex to the shortcomings of several presidents and newspaper publishers. But I picked presidents to write about.

These were some interesting facts about Presidents Lincoln and Kennedy which you may or may not already know.

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946. Lincoln was elected president in 1860 and Kennedy was elected president in 1960.

Both men were particularly concerned with civil rights. Both Lincoln’s and Kennedy’s wives lost babies while living in the White House.

Both presidents were shot on Friday and both were shot in the head. Both men were shot by southerners and succeeded by southerners named Johnson. Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln was born in 1808 and Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy was born in 1908.

Now it really gets weird. Lincoln’s secretary was named Kennedy and Kennedy’s secretary was named Lincoln.

John Wilkes Booth who assassinated Lincoln was born in 1839. Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy was born in 1939. Both assassins were known by their three names. Both names are composed of 15 letters. Both men were assassinated before their trials.

Now hang on to your seat. Lincoln was shot in a theater named "Ford." Kennedy was shot while riding in a car called "Lincoln" made by Ford.

It is certainly true that President Lincoln and President Kennedy came into the world in different surroundings. Lincoln was born in a log cabin and was a self educated man. President Kennedy was the son of one of the wealthiest men in the United States and the first Roman Catholic president.

Another interesting fact about presidents was what happened to several presidents who were elected in a year ending in "0":

1840: William Henry Harrison (died in office)

1860: Abraham Lincoln (assassinated)

1880: James A Garfield, (assassinated)

1900: William McKinley (assassinated)

1920: Warren G Harding (died in office)

1940: Franklin D. Roosevelt (died in office)

1960: John F. Kennedy (assassinated)

1980: Ronald Reagan (survived assassination attempt.)
