Merle Carey, Wheatland, died Aug. 13, 2009, at his home.
Mr. Carey was born in Winston on June 3, 1933, to Clarence and Lowell Carey.
Survivors include his best friend, Lena Toler; two sons, Mike Carey and Martin Carey, both of Kansas City, Kan.; stepchildren, Angela Tweedy, Terry Toler, Kim Fowler and John Toler; one brother, Melvin Carey of Kansas City, Kan.; and several grandchildren.
