The electricity went off Monday, Aug. 10, in some areas of Gallatin due to the loss of an underground cable near the school. It’s unknown what caused the cable to fail — whether it was just older wiring that went bad or if lightning struck it.
The line ran underground between the high school and the ag building. The outage blew fuses at the elementary and Superintendent Jim Ruse said one generator was hooked up and ran briefly. But the electricity was quickly restored and there was no loss of food in the refrigerators.
"It was a good dry run of what to do in a crisis," he said. "But we really didn’t have one."
The ag building has been without power, but should be back up today.
