The board of the Daviess-DeKalb County Regional Jail learned that the video data storage system has been installed and is operating smoothly during their regular meeting held July 31 at Pattonsburg.

The board discussed hiring a private firm to do a financial statement as stipulated in the bond. The job would be put up for bid.

The material is on hand to build the guard shack. Work should begin the first week of August and not take long to complete. The SRI roof contractor is expected to arrive at the jail on Aug. 4 to look at problems with cracking and loose paint on the roof.

The board talked about prospective prisoners from various city and county jails.

The $800,000 sales tax CD comes due in August.

Law Enforcement Day is Aug. 9. Law enforcement personnel are being offered tickets to a Royals ball game at a discounted price.

There were 31 prisoners from Daviess; 47 from DeKalb; and 48 from other areas being housed at the jail.

The financial report, aging report and budget message were read by Budget Manager David Tolen and approved by the board. Sales tax income of $72,994.23 was reported for June. Year to date sales tax income was $408,513.24.

About $20,000 was left in the sales tax checking account after paying interest of $73,310 and principal of $364,992.03 toward the bond debt. There are two six-month sales tax CDs at BTC Bank for $800,000 and $475,000.

The jail also has two six month CDs totaling $500,000 at BTC Bank.

The jail’s operating account ending balance was $111,389.08 as of 7/31/09. The aging report showed $16,704.40 still owed the jail after 90 days.

Daviess County was reported to have saved $240,630 and DeKalb $295,260 on inmate housing since January, 2009. The jail’s commissary grossed $12,944.54 and Swansons earned $287.48.

Present at the regular meeting of the Daviess-DeKalb County Regional Jail were Daviess County Sheriff Ben Becerra; DeKalb County Sheriff Wes Raines; DeKalb County Presiding Commissioner David Lippold; Daviess County Presiding Commissioner Lance Critten; Jail Administrator Larry Hadley; Board Secretary Mary Morrow; and Budget Manager David Tolen.

The next meeting is Friday, Aug. 28.
