With the start of 2009-10 school year just around the corner, high school varsity athletes are already gearing up for next Monday’s first day of practices.

Gallatin R-5 football kicks off with two-a-day practices beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday. The first session will last from 7 to 9 a.m. and the second session from 10 a.m. until noon. Head coach Jeff White reminds athletes that attendance at two-a-days is mandatory for participation during the 2009 season.

The Lady Bulldog softball team, under the direction of head coach Casey Cole, will also begin practices on Monday.

Girls golf coach Cindy Boles has announced that her practices will not begin until Tuesday of next week. Her Tuesday through Friday sessions will go from 8:30 until 10:30 a.m.

The varsity softball team officially opens the Gallatin R-5 fall sports season with a trip to Trenton on Aug. 24. The girls golf team travels to Stanberry on Aug. 26 and the football team heads to Tarkio on Aug. 28 for its Grand River Conference opener.
