Twenty-seven, University of Missouri Extension 4-H Clover Kids from Gentry, Daviess, Harrison, Caldwell, DeKalb, and Clinton Counties spent Wednesday, July 22 at Wallace State Park. The youth were participants in a Clover Kid camp focused on Fun in the Sun.
The youth experienced fun activities that varied from tie dyeing their camp shirts and making summer themed crafts to nature walks and building bat houses. A highlight of the day was getting to fish in the lake at the park. Jerry Wiechman, Missouri Department of Conservation Fisheries Management Biologist for the Pony Express Conservation Area, spent the morning fishing with the youth.
In the afternoon the campers were visited by Angie Rhoad, Nutrition Program Assistant, who discussed healthy snacks and My Pyramid. The youth also played water games and prepared the shelter house for the evening pot-luck dinner.
The families of the campers joined the group for dinner in the early evening and enjoyed hearing songs that the group had learned during the day. Following a brief slide show the campers were given certificates of participation, a group photo and all of the crafts they had made during the day.
Attending from Daviess County was Charlee Prentice, a member of the Knee-Hi 4-H Club and attending from Pleasant Dorsey 4-H Club of Gentry County was Emily Poppa.
Danielle Ness, Knee-Hi member and teen counselor, also spent the day with the youth at Wallace State Park.
Regional 4-H staff teaching for the day included Becky Simpson, 4-H Youth Specialist for Daviess, Gentry and Harrison Counties; Debbie Davis, 4-H Youth Specialist for Caldwell, Clinton and DeKalb Counties; Kari Stock Youth Program Associate for Harrison County; and Dale Hunsburger, Youth Program Associate for Caldwell, Clinton, and DeKalb Counties.
