John L. Lutter, 73, of Lake Viking passed away Saturday, July 25 at the North Kansas City Hospital. A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 30 at the Lake Viking Church near Gallatin. Family visitation will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin where friends may call after 11 a.m. Burial will be at the Lake Viking Cemetery near Gallatin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Open Door Mission or St. Jude Hospital in care of the funeral home.

John was born Oct. 28, 1935 to John J and Ruby (Marston) Lutter in Brooking, South Dakota. He graduated from Pacific Junction, Iowa High School in 1954. After graduation John began his career with the Burlington and Northern Railroad, as a switchman retiring in 1995 after 37 years of dedicated service. John was united in marriage to Sharon Wells Sept. 17, 1983 in Pacific Junction, Iowa, where they made their home until 1997. John and Sharon purchased their property at Lake Viking in 1992 and spent as much time at the lake as they could with plans to build their home after retirement. In 1997 they moved to Lake Viking to enjoy the peace and tranquility of lake living.
John was a member of the Methodist Church in Pacific Junction, the Lake Viking Church and the past year the Full Faith Christian Church in Kidder where he served as an elder and Sunday school teacher. John and Sharon enjoyed traveling and visited many states. John was an avid ham radio operator and loved to build and fly model airplanes. He was active in the Lake Viking Church youth puppet program, always eager to do what was needed. John was a people person building deep and lasting relationships and he had a great appreciation and love for church, family and friends. His strength, compassion and love will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife 26 years, Sharon, daughters, Barbara Tennigkeit of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Susan Huenniger of Logan, Iowa, Cathy Taysen, of Bellevue, Neb., sons, Norman Lutter and Daniel Lutter, of Utah, sister, Patsy Schweiger of Lake Placid, Fla., John has one grandson and six granddaughters, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
