Want to hear classic rock ‘n roll for free? See dozens of cute babies? If so, then plan to attend the 118th annual Jameson Picnic in the city park on Thursday, Friday and Saturday Aug. 6-7-8.
The event opens on Thursday with a talent show at 6 p.m. Cash prizes will be given. Registration is at 5:30 p.m. The "Five Star Jazz Band," under the direction of Jameson native Robert Drummond will perform at 8:30 p.m.
Friday evening will feature Vera Nelson’s Dance Company at 6 p.m. and th Krazy Kats, who play yesterday’s rock ‘n roll at 7:30 p.m.
Activities start at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday with the baby show and little Mr. and Miss competitions. Winners will receive trophies. There are categories for babies and children zero to four years old. Registration starts at 9 a.m.
The parade will be organized at North Daviess High School starting at 9 a.m. and will begin at 11 a.m., rain or shine. After a noon dinner featuring full meals as well as sandwich options, games for children and adults will begin at 1 p.m.
The featured event of Saturday afternoon will be the Club 180 race. Registration for the ATV horseshoe drag will begin at 12:30 p.m. and the races begin at 1 p.m.
Saturday evening will begin with an auction at 6:30 p.m. "Dammit, Jim, " a group that plays country and classic rock, will perform at 8 p.m. Members of the group include Mark Gay, Keith Gay, John Hightree, Gordon Hale and Greg Landes.
The Lions Club’s food stand will be open each evening and all day Saturday. Choices include tenderloins, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, fries and homemade pie. Free drawings for merchandise and gift certificates will be held every night after the entertainment. Mustang Amusements will have inflatables and other activities for children during the three-day event.
The Jameson Museum will be open on Saturday afternoon with two special exhibits. One explores the history of Somerville Hardware and Lumber of Jameson.
