Graveside services for Helen Byrd were held Saturday, July 25, at the Old Town Cemetery near Pattonsburg. Arrangements were by McWilliams Funeral Home, Gallatin.

Helen Byrd, 61, Bethany, formerly of Pattonsburg, died Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.
Mrs. Byrd was born Dec. 1, 1947, to Charles and Frances (Sharp) Hays in Richmond. As a child she and her family lived in the Frog Eye area and she attended schools in Knoxville and Kansas City.
She was united in marriage to Donald Byrd on Oct. 26, 1962. The couple made their home in the Kansas City area.
Mrs. Byrd was employed at the Cook Paint Company for 10 years where she was one of the first women to be a paint maker in the company. She and her husband drove 18 wheelers for Tulley Freightways in Kansas City, Kan., and later American Roller. In 1993 the couple moved to a farm near Pattonsburg. In 2004 they moved to Bethany.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Donald Sr., of the home; children, Jeanette Kimmons of Kansas City, Kan., Don Byrd Jr. of Kansas City, Kan., Michael Byrd of Bethany, Raven, Raelynn, Emily and Gary Byrd of the home; one sister, Terry Hays of Pattonsburg; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
