The Gallatin R-5 Board of Education approved the budget for 2009-2010 during their regular meeting held June 16.

Revenue was projected at $5,575,488 with expenses the same, making it a balanced budget without deficit spending. The budget may be modified after the levy hearing in August, and then again one more time after that.
Bills in the amount of $421,880 were approved for payment.
The board discussed the school’s smoking policy. Currently smoking is not allowed inside the buildings. The only revision was to ask that fans not smoke in the bleachers during softball and football games. Smoking will only be allowed in an area behind the bleachers.
Handbooks were approved for the high school and elementary.
The board chose to continue policies and membership with the Missouri School Board Association.
The staff position for half time English teacher was filled by Markay August.
Elementary custodian is Shelly Christopher. High School custodian is David McLey. New bus drivers are Bob Sharp and Doug Alden. Alan Tairent will be head bus driver. Elementary cook is Stacey Collins.
Superintendent Jim Ruse reported that the June 7 hail storm meant more work in addition to the regular summer repairs. The elementary will need a new roof. Air conditioning coils, some screens, and the flashing around the elementary on the west side will need replaced. The driver’s ed van will need body repair. The Title One building will need a new roof and siding. And there are other miscellaneous problems caused by the storm to be addressed.
The board went over bid results. Diesel fuel with MFA was bid for $2.32 from August 2009 to January 2010 for 7,500 gallons. From February 2010 to May 2010 diesel fuel was bid at $2.40 for 5,600 gallons. If the price goes down, the school will get the lower price. Kitchen cafeteria bread, buns, pastries went to Sara Lee. The paint bid went to Gallatin Lumber. The milk bid went to Roberts Dairy.
The board decide to go ahead and build the ISS room on campus in the ag building. There will also be upgrades in the high school gym and the visiting locker rooms by putting new metal around the home side where there is wood siding, and generally upgrading the whole gym.
