The Northwest Vipers 8 & Under machine pitch baseball team travelled to Independence June 26-28 for the USSSA Missouri AA State Tournament. The Vipers’ went 4-1 in the tournament to finish in 2nd place.

In their first pool play game, the Vipers defeated the Blue Springs Giants by a score of 19-0.
In their second pool play game, the Vipers defeated the Blue Springs Bulldogs by a score of 15-1. Jacob Lewis of Winston tallied one hit.
The Vipers earned the top seed heading into the single elimination portion of the tournament. In their first game, they defeated the Blue Springs Panthers by a score of 8-0. The win over the Panthers advanced the Vipers to the semi-final game where they faced the Kansas City Strikers. Behind solid hitting all the way through the line-up, the Vipers were able to upend the Strikers by a score of 11-1.
The Vipers advanced to the championship game of the tournament where they faced the Kansas City Stix. The Stix jumped out to an early lead en route to a 17-13 win over the Vipers.
"I thought the boys played really well the entire tournament. I was very proud of them and how they fought back and never gave up in the championship game. That shows a lot about their character," said Coach Rob Dowis. The Vipers’ record stands at 23-8. They will next see action in the USSSA World Series July 13-19 at the 3 and 2 baseball complex in Lenexa, Kan.
