Twenty-eight people from five states joined tour guides Carol Thomas, Trenton, and Carol Reger, Galt, for a six-day tour of New York City.
Those attending from this area were Marjorie Keuhn, Pam Johnston, Carol Thomas, Russell Lee Joiner, and Carla Still from Trenton, Joyce and Stan Peery from Jamesport, Carol Reger and Belinda Essmyer from Milan, Ruth VanSickle from Edian, Sylvia Berry, Cindy Gott and Roberta Sayer, Galt.
The group saw several Broadway shows including August: Osage County, West Side Story, Jersey Boys, Wicked, South Pacific and Nine to Five. They also attended a Marty Thomas concert and the TV taping of Regis and Kelly.
They toured the Wall Street area, visited Ground Zero and St. Paul’s Church across the street from Ground Zero. St. Paul’s Church ministered to the cleanup workers at the World Trade Center site by serving meals and providing clean cots. For many, the trip to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty was a chance to revisit history and a deeper appreciation of what our ancestors went through to get to America.
Chinatown was a highlight for the group as well as walking across the Brooklyn Bridge. The double-decker bus provided many hours of sightseeing from the top of the bus. The Circleline tour around the island of Manhattan with a New York City guide gave everybody a good look at the island and to marvel at the beauty of New York’s skyscrapers from a distance.
Those who made the trip flew in from Texas, Montana, Kansas, Pennsylvania and Missouri. One gentleman from New Jersey drove in to join the group.
The next trip to New York is Dec. 4-9.
