Myrick McLey and John Corwin, both of Gallatin Boy Scout Troop 67, were awarded the rank of Eagle Scout at a court of honor on June 21 at the First Christian Church of Gallatin. Both boys have been active in Scouts for many years, having begun as Tiger Cubs in first grade and later earning the Arrow of Light, the highest award in Cub Scouting.
They are both members of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, the Camp Geiger honor camping society. Myrick is a warrior with the tribal name of Warrior Gaining Ground. John is a tom-tom beater with the tribal name of Least Kiva Counter.
For his Eagle community service project, Myrick refurbished and landscaped the Gallatin Dockery Park sign and did additional plantings and landscaping at the park shelter house.
John’s Eagle project was a complete clearing and cleanup of Nichols Cemetery east of Gallatin, including resetting stones.
State Representative Casey Guernsey was a guest at the ceremony, making his first presentation of house Eagle Scout resolutions since taking office.
The boys will be juniors at Gallatin High School this fall. Myrick is the son of David and Diane McLey of Gallatin. John is the son of Mark and Vicki Corwin of Gallatin.
