City Administrator Zac Johnson told the Gallatin Board of Aldermen during their regular meeting held June 8, that Douglas Pump has been working on pump issues at well #2. Because of the pump issues Layne Western had been postponed in doing the specific capacity tests on the wells, but is hoping to get them done the week of June 15.

Mr. Johnson stated that Bob Fiegly should be in Gallatin the week of June 15 to begin the city’s hot mix street project for this summer.

Police Chief Mark Richards reported on activity from May 26 to June 8 with the following reports taken and tickets given: one accident; one careless driving; one noise complaint; two stealing; two dogs at large; one ATV complaint. There are four dogs in the pound.

Chief Richards stated that June 7, was the largest turnout to date at the storm shelter. Due to the electric outages the old siren at city hall would not stay on. He is looking into what it would cost to upgrade the old siren with new technology.

Bills in the amount of $124,967.26 were approved for payment.

Discussion was held on the financial statement.

Mr. Johnson said that he would like the reschedule the second meeting in July.

Comments by aldermen were made regarding yard and mowing nuisances and lights being on at city hall.

Mayor Ballew was approached about headstone repairs at the cemeteries.

Public comments were made regarding the trash service, cable service and leveling dirt at a property on Richardson Street.

The board entered into closed session pursuant to hiring, firing, disciplining or promoting employees.

City continues water plant project

City Administrator Zac Johnson discussed the upcoming plans for the water plant project with the Gallatin Board of Aldermen during their regular meeting held May 26. First, the specific capacity tests need to be completed and then a pilot test will need to be done, which will cost anywhere between $30,000 to $60,000. He said Layne Western was expected to arrive the week of May 26 to do the specific capacity tests.

In other business at Monday’s meeting, Steve Reid stated the city crew has been working on getting the pool up and running. He has been trying to update the other city employees on information before he leaves for employment elsewhere.

Teddy Holcomb stated the city crew has been pulling ditches and cleaning out road tubes.

Police Chief Mark Richards reported on activity from May 11-26 with the following reports taken and tickets given: two cows out; two lock outs; two assist EMS; two attempted suicides; two well-being checks; three 9-1-1 hang ups; one animal abuse; one careless driving. There are four dogs in the pound.

Bills in the amount of $13,942.16 were approved for payment.

The board approved a resolution allowing city aldermen to participate in the city’s employee benefits plan for health and dental coverage.

Kaylie Warner, Jeremy Holcomb and Kristy Smith were re-appointed to the Park Board for three year terms.

Comments were made by aldermen regarding commercial building on W. Grand and Jackson Street; an issue on High Street; 401 K police expense account; refinancing the lease payment on the electric system.

Mayor Ballew thanked the board and the city staff for the sympathy flowers given to her family.
