Chief Richards said there are several reputable roofing companies available; however, since last week’s hail storm the city has seen a large number of companies inundate Gallatin and the surrounding area.

When looking for someone to work on your home you should use someone who can give you references and you should contact these references. You should also not pay for roofing work that isn’t completed to you and your insurance company’s standards.

Be leery of companies stating that they will pay your deductible or ones that are wanting to act on your behalf in dealing with the insurance company. If work is done poorly and the roofer leaves the state, homeowners have little or no recourse.

You can ask if the roofer or contractor is a member of the Better Business Bureau and how long they have been a member. You should ask if they have a business license (what city), if their business has insurance, where their home office is and how long they have been in business there.

The city of Gallatin does not allow door to door soliciting so anyone coming to your home without you contacting them is violating the law. The best advice is for you to call the contractor. The contractor should not be soliciting you.

If you are having concerns with contractors coming to your home or any other questions you can contact the Gallatin Police Department at 660-663-3580.
