Lieutenant Colonel John (Sam) Barton, D.O., is one of approximately 70 members of the 180th Airlift Squadron that deployed May 29, to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Dr. Barton will be serving as an Air Force Flight Surgeon for six weeks.

Dr. Barton is a Board-certified General Surgeon at Cameron Regional Medical Center, where he has held privileges since 2004. His sub-specialties include Family Practice, Emergency Medicine, and Aerospace Medicine. Dr. Barton is Medical Director of Cameron Medical Clinic.

Having served in the United States military for the past 16 years, Dr. Barton completed a tour of duty in Iraq in 2004. He also holds the Chief of Medical Services position.

The 180th Airlift Squadron is part of the 139th Airlift Wing, Missouri Air National Guard, and is located at Rosecrans Air National Guard Base in St. Joseph, Missouri. Squadron Commander is Lieutenant Colonel Ken McDaniel.
