The Winston R-6 Class of 2009 valedictorian award was presented to Rachel Michael during commencement held May 15. Salutatorian award was presented to April Hall.

Graduating seniors were Rachel Bird, Ashley Hailey Mullins, Kyle Hass, David Mozingo, Allison Ward, Miles Baldwin, Ethan Clark, April Hall, Rachel Michael and Hannah Yost.

High School Principal Eric Lewis presented awards. Seniors recognized for National Honor Society were Ashley Hailey Mullins, Rachel Michael and Ethan Clark. Students graduating with honors were Miles Baldwin, Ethan Clark, Ashley Hailey Mullins, April Hall, Kyle Hass and Rachel Michael. Students receiving the college preparatory certificate were April Hall and Rachel Michael.

Scholarships were presented during the graduation ceremonies.

Miles Baldwin has received the Freshman Merit Award from Northwest Missouri State University for $500

Ethan Clark has received the Western Excellence Award for Engineering from Missouri Western State University in the amount of $1,000.

April Hall has received the following scholarships: Lake Vikings Lion’s Club Scholarship in the amount of $500; The Eastern Star (Winston/Maysville Chapter) Scholarship in the amount of $500; The Tower Scholarship from Northwest Missouri State University in the amount of $1,500. Additionally she has received the Missouri Access Grant and The Missouri Dream Grant.

Rachel Michael has received the following scholarships: The ELKS Lodge Scholarship in the amount of $250 per year renewable for four years for a total of $1,000; The National Wild Turkey Federation Scholarship in the amount of $500; The Tower Scholarship from Northwest Missouri State University in the amount of $1,500; The Freshman Merit Scholarship also from Northwest in the amount of $500. She has also received the American Dream Grant and the Missouri Access Grant along with The Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Award. Rachael Michael was also presented the George Washington Carver Award from Governor Jay Nixon in recognition of outstanding academic achievement.

Hannah Yost has received the following scholarships: The Northwest Missouri Association of School Administrators Scholarship in the amount of $750; and the MFA Foundation Scholarship in the amount of $2,000

Superintendent Lisa Yost presented each graduating senior with certificates from Missouri Senator Brad Lager and Congressman Sam Graves in recognition of the hard work and determination they have exhibited in the achieving of this graduation goal.

Speaker for the graduating class was David Michael, former teacher, principal and superintendent.

Kyle Hass closed the graduation ceremony.
