Blood donors are being sought by the American Red Cross. A blood drive will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 1, at Gallatin First Baptist Church. To make an appointment, please call the church office at 663-2331.
A single blood donation can save up to three lives! Eligible donors can give blood every 56 days, but blood is needed every two seconds – one in 10 people entering the hospital need blood!
There is no substitute for human blood and the one and only source is volunteer donations. It is safe to donate blood. You are not at risk for contracting any kind of infection or illness when you donate blood, including AIDS. A sterile needle is used only once and then properly discarded.
Despite what some believe, blood can be donated by someone with high blood pressure controlled with medication (if blood pressure is within guidelines on day of donation), diabetes controlled with medication, and the sickle cell trait.
You can make a difference. You must be healthy, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be at least 17 years old (age 16 if presenting a completed parental or legal guardian consent form). The actual blood donation takes less than 10 minutes. Prior to the donation you will also receive a mini-physical with a blood pressure screening and an iron check.
Plan to donate blood in the Fellowship Hall at Gallatin First Baptist Church on Monday, June 1. All presenting donors must show identification prior to donating. Call 866-236-3276 for eligibility questions.
