A graveside service for James Stephenson was held April 27 at Sunny Slope Cemetery in Richmond. The family suggests memorials to the James Stephenson Memorial Fund in care of Polley Funeral Home.

James Bryon Stephenson, 39, Gallatin, died April 22, 2009, at the Wright Memorial Hospital in Trenton.

Mr. Stephenson was born on July 11, 1969, in Clay County, the son of James Edwin and Marvalene Elizabeth (Seek) Cates. He married Belinda Lee Dunman on Aug. 19, 2000. She survives him.

Mr. Stephenson attended public schools in Excelsior Springs and Independence. He had been employed with Wendy’s and other restaurants, Derstler Lumber Company, Landmark and Intercontinental Steel before his health failed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Jack Halterman; one brother, Vernon Whelchel, Jr.; one sister, Jodie Halterman; and his grandparents, Erma Faye Loyd, Marvin E. Seek, Maggie Cates and Jim Cates.

Other survivors include three children, Misha Stephenson and James Stephenson Jr., both of Gallatin, and Karl Robbins of Farmington; one brother, Chad Loyd of Richmond; one half-brother, James Cates of Mosby; and one half-sister, Kendra Duncan of Lake of the Ozarks.
