According to the Missouri Department of Transportation road closures for Daviess County as of Wednesday morning included: Route M -Closed five miles east of Route 13; Route AA – Closed north of Route Z junction due to flooding from Grand River; and Route Z – NOW OPEN west of Route AA (opened 04/29/09 at 8:30 a.m.)
According to the National Weather Service out of Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, the flood warning has been extended for the Grand River near Pattonsburg until Thursday afternoon and at Gallatin until Friday morning or until the warnings are cancelled.
At 6:42 a.m. this morning (Wednesday) the stage was 28.0 feet at Pattonsburg. Flood stage is 25 feet. The forecast states the river will continue to fall to below flood stage by this afternoon. At 25 feet low-lying farmland begins to flood.
At 9:15 a.m. this morning (Wednesday) the stage was 31 feet at Gallatin. Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast. Flood stage is 26.0 feet. The forecast states the river will continue to fall to below flood stage by late Thursday morning. At 26 feet low-lying woodlands and farmland along the river flood.
The National Weather Service reminds drivers to not drive through flowing water. Nearly half of all flood fatalities are vehicle related. As little as six inches of water may cause you to lose control of your vehicle. Two feet of water will carry most vehicles away.
