The mission trip to Kenya will include holding a crusade in Nairobi and completing a community service-type project. Her group of 20 will also be able to tour Nairobi as well and also Dubai, of the United Arab Emirates, during a fly through.
Faith is needing folks to donate, from one dollar to whatever they can afford. She needs $4,000 to make the trip and has already collected $151 in a week. Faith has opened an account at Farmer’s Bank for donations. The name of the account is Kenya Mission. Faith’s home address is 1317 Green Drive, Gallatin, Mo. 64640; phone 816-284-3400.
In order to make her financial goal she also plans to do some fund-raisers, one of which is a Mother’s Day gift box full of Mary Kay products up to $200 value. Details will follow. All proceeds will go toward the trip.
Faith has been involved in a lot of "backyard" missions. She has helped feed the homeless in Las Vegas through the Salvation Army Homeless Shelter. In other non-paid positions, she has worked with at-risk adolescents for over seven years, providing tutoring, mentoring and leadership with faith-based youth organizations.
She was in Houston last summer to hand out food to Hurricane Ike victims the day after the hurricane hit. She was with the first point of distribution site. It was during this time that the organizer of the mission trip began making plans with the pastor of the church Faith was attending in Houston. Faith was excited about the prospect of going to Africa. But with her subsequent move back home to Gallatin, she thought the opportunity to make the trip had passed. Then a couple of weeks ago she received an email stating that the mission group to Africa was still taking volunteers; and Faith’s hope of going on the trip was renewed.
Faith, the daughter of Rick and Marilyn Ripple of Gallatin, was an eighth grade math teacher for three years at Las Vegas. She is currently substitute teaching at Winston and Pattonsburg schools while preparing for this mission trip. Faith said she considered her departure from the school district a bit of a sabbatical. She is looking to go back into education, but in a new capacity other than teaching.
