In April of 2007, 70% of Daviess County voters approved a tax levy in the amount of five cents per $100 assessed valuation for the purpose of providing services for persons 60 years of age or older. The tax revenues generated by this levy have been used to improve the health, nutrition and quality of life of our Daviess County senior citizens.
This has been accomplished by serving congregate and home delivered meals through the Active Aging Resource Center in Gallatin and Senior Center in Pattonsburg. In addition, the monies have been used to purchase two emergency personal alarms for Daviess County residents as well as supporting an exercise program and other activities at both Daviess County centers.
Due to an error in the original ballot language the tax levy must be placed before Daviess County voters again on April 7. The ballot language will read "Shall Daviess County, Missouri, continue the tax levy of five cents per hundred dollar valuation for the purpose of providing services for persons 60 years of age or older?"
Approval of this ballot issue is imperative if the centers are to continue the services they provide to the senior citizens of our county.
This ballot issue comes at an inopportune time given the problems in our national and local economy. This is why the Board of the Daviess County Active Aging Resource is asking you to vote Yes to continue this tax levy. This is not a new tax; it is simply a process that we must go through to affirm the Daviess County voters original decision in April of 2007 to care for and improve the lives of those over 60 years of age.
Thank you for your support.
On behalf of the board of the Daviess County Active Aging Resource,
Russ Hamilton, chairman
