Marilyn Peterson retired as postmaster at the Altamont Post Office on Jan. 2, according to an article in the DeKalb County Record-Herald, after 30 years with the postal service.

Jo Ann Dean, acting manager of MP004, presented her with her service award at the Altamont Post Office on Jan. 2.

Marilyn started her postal career at the Union Star Post Office February 1979. She worked as a PTF clerk for 13 years.

While working at the Union Star office, she was also employed as a loaned clerk for six years at the St. Joseph main office in order to get 40 hours per week.

Marilyn also worked as a loaned PTF clerk at the King City Post Office for several years.

She served as OIC at Weatherby Post Office and also the Darlington Post Office.

She became postmaster at Altamont in February 1992 and was postmaster there for 16 years. Marilyn enjoyed her work very much and met so many wonderful people during her career.

She witnessed many changes through the years in the postal work due to automation.

Marilyn and her husband, David, have two children. Linda White, who lives at Republic, is office manager for rehabilitation and sports medicine at Cox Health, Springfield. Rodney Peterson is employed with the Fulton Water District.

They have five grandchildren, Krystle Peterson, Daniel Peterson, Laura White, Ashley White and Nicole White.

Marilyn hopes to get to spend more time with her family.
