In making the announcement, Tripp indicated that a much larger district has been formed from which selected students athletes will be chosen. A twenty-county district will now be incorporated, including all of the counties of Northwest Missouri bordered by Iowa and Kansas, and spanning as far south as Clay, Clinton, Holt and Platte counties, and as far east at Putnam, Sullivan and Chariton counties.

The Lions All-Star Basketball Classic had been held for many years on the Northwest Missouri State University campus in Maryville.

The date for the 2009 event is set for Saturday, June 6, with student athletes arriving on the NCMC campus in Trenton on Friday morning for a full day of practices and team-building leading up to the games throughout the day on Saturday. A Friday night awards banquet will be held as part of the two-day event.

NCMC administrators and Lions basketball officials are excited about the first time games in Trenton. Tripp indicated that NCMC presented an enthusiastic proposal with professionalism and interest in bringing this event to their campus. College leaders, he added, found this event to be a tremendous marketing opportunity for the college, centrally located in the newly formed Lions District 26-M4.

As in the past, participating high schools nominate outstanding senior basketball players, both boys and girls, and selections are made for teams to meet in games on Saturday, June 6.

High school coaches are currently invited to make selections and submit those nominations to district Lions committee members as soon as possible.
