Searcy elementary students jump in to fight heart disease

The students of Covel D. Searcy Elementary are jumping at the chance to help fight heart disease and stroke – our nation’s #1 killer. The week of Feb. 9-13, the school will hold its annual Jump Rope for Heart event. Students will jump rope to raise funds for the American Heart Association’s cardiovascular research and educational programs. Jump Rope for Heart is co-sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

Lady Hornet coach David Prather receives national award

David Prather, head coach of the Hamilton Lady Hornets, has been named 2008 Coach of the Year in Missouri for girls basketball.

The prestigious award comes from the National Federation of State High School Coaches Association, the official national coaches association of the National Federation of State High School Associations. (NFHS). Prather led the Lady Hornets to a 32-0 record and Missouri Class 2 State title in 2007-08.

James Lewis, bridge supervisor, reported that they are making culvert and bridge repairs as weather permits.

Dave Allen, road and bridge department, met with the commission for brush removal assignments in Colfax Township.

Chi-Rho youth group begins new movie and game night

Saturday night was the first youth night hosted by Chi-Rho for Daviess County students grades 4-8. Ping pong, air hockey, Madden tournaments along with board games and movie night was a huge success for the 60 plus youth and 20 plus adults chaperones and volunteers.
