The 2008-2009 school calendar was amended during the regular meeting of the Winston R-6 Board of Education held Jan. 15.

Proposed changes approved by the board include March 17, dismiss at 12:45 for grade card preparation; March 18, parent-teacher conference from 3:30-7 p.m. with board meeting at 7 p.m.; March 26, school in session full day; March 18, dismiss at 12:45 for grade card preparation

The gifted program report was accepted.

The board gave its approval to submit summer school application when available and set summer school dates from June 1-12.

Eric Lewis was approved for rental of the gym for Feb. 15.

The 2008 budget amendment was approved.

The board entered into executive session to hear personnel issues and student issues.

Elementary principal enrollment at preschool 19; kindergarten through sixth 87. Total number of students 106 with an attendance rate of 95.65%

December Students of the Month were Sam Uthe, first grade, and Tuckie Russell, fifth grade.

The elementary theme for January is perseverance.

Winston will host the Daviess County Spelling Bee for fifth through eighth grades on Feb. 5.

Second quarter C.A.R.E. awards and perfect attendance assembly was Jan. 13.

High School Principal reported 66 students enrolled in grades seven through 12 and an average daily attendance of 94.87%.

Grade cards were hand proofed and mailed before break.

Junior high school basketball recognition will be rescheduled after being postponed due to the weather.

Junior High Academic bowl season has begun.

The senior class will be hosting and catering the Soil and Water Conservation banquet.

A committee to organize the gifted program met on Dec. 10 to gather information.

December Students of the Month were Denise Weigand and Noah Bielby.

Noah Bilby received his Eagle Scout badge on Jan. 3.

Superintendent and principal evaluations were completed.
