I am the niece of Betty Lou Burge Wiseman (b.2-20-1920 Gallatin, MO-d.12-24-2007 Bra- denton, Fla.). An obituary for Mrs. Wiseman was published in the Northwest Missourian last January. Mrs Wiseman was the youngest child of William Farley Burge and Pearl Elizabeth Jen- kins Burge life long residents of Gallatin and Jamesport.
Her personal papers contain two letters signed by then Mis- souri Senator Harry S. Truman and her leather bound high school diploma from Carlow School class of 1938. Her grad- uating class consisted of only five members and to my know- ledge they had all attended school at Carlow from first grade through high school.
I (speaking for Mrs. Wise- man’s remaining family) would like to donate these items to the Historical Society if they could be displayed. Would the Daviess County Historical Society have interest in these papers and if so, where could they be displayed?
Your assistance in this mat- ter is appreciated. I look forward to your reply. Sincerely,
Susan Burge Schotters,
Fresno, CA
Editor’s note: If received, the au- thentic papers will be securely stored either at the courthouse or in a bank vault; photocopies and the leather bound diploma will be displayed at the Visitors’ Center within the 1889 Squirrel Cage Jail in Gallatin. Gifts are greatly appreciated and similar gifts from others are encouraged.
