Gallatin wrestlers ran into stiff competition at Saturday’s Lexington Tournament but still managed to come away with a fourth place team finish in the six-team field.

Justin Taul lost both matches in the 103-pound weight class, to 2008 state medalist Tyler Rader of Lathrop (13-3 and 6-3), but was the second place finisher in the thin class at Lexington.

Peter Steele had an extremely tough draw in the 112-pound bracket. He lost to defending state champ Logan Welch of Lexington, fell to state medalist Jared Potter of Lathrop and dropped a third match to state youth tournament champion Kevin Steeby of Mid-Buchanan.

Terrill Wood placed third in the 125-pound class with a 2-2 record. Jordan Jeffers went 0-3 in the 135-pound class. Bo Malo defeated two solid wrestlers, from Maryville and Lexington, and finished third in the 140-pound weight class with a 3-2 record.

Brandon Ness went 2-2 for third place in the 145-pound class. Matt Atkinson finished 2-1 and second place in the 152-pound class. Brendan Cosgrove lost three matches in the 160-pound class.

Jordan Phelps brought home a third place finish for the Bulldogs with a 2-2 record in the 189-pound weight class. Bradley Jones battled through another tough weight class, 215, and finished fourth with a 2-2 mark.

Gallatin varsity wrestlers travel to Trenton on Saturday for more tournament action.
