Gilman City’s boys used a 17-for-26 performance from the foul line to hold off Gallatin, 58-55, in Friday night’s consolation title game of the Gallatin Invitational.

Earlier in the evening, Trenton’s boys overwhelmed Winston, 78-29, to win the seventh place game.

Newtown-Harris had no trouble defeating Hamilton in Saturday night’s championship contest. The Tigers built a 40-point cushion in the fourth quarter before settling for a 76-49 decision. It was the second straight year the Tigers took advance of a turbo clock in the fourth quarter. Tournament most valuable player KJ Cool scored 25 points to lead Tiger efforts.

Gilman City’s time with the lead could be measured in seconds rather than minutes, but the Hawks held the advantage when it counted most, at the end.

Gallatin led, 15-7, after the first quarter, but Gilman City came back to tie the score at 23-23 at the break. The Hawks held a brief one-point lead in the third quarter before the Bulldogs rallied for a 39-37 cushion.

Vince Wiley, who finished with six treys for Gallatin, notched back-to-back bombs to give the Dogs breathing room, 49-43, but Chris Hulett answered with two of his three treys at the 3:42 mark of the fourth to tie the score once again, 49-49.

Colton Selby kept the three-point shooting contest going with a long-range shot for the Dogs. Nick Wilson hit a running one-hander for the Hawks. Selby, forced to foul Wilson to prevent a breakaway layup, left the game with his fifth personal. Wilson hit both free throws to give Gilman the lead to stay.

Just when the outcome seemed to be in the books, Wiley hit his final three-pointer to slice the gap to 56-55 with eight seconds remaining.

The Bulldogs contested the in-bounds pass after a time out and that led to two more free throws by Wilson. Gallatin got one more chance from the corner baseline but the shot sailed over the rim.

Wilson, who earned all-tournament recognition, shared high-scoring honors with Wiley as both notched 20 points.

Hulett and Ross Oram finished with 15 and 11 points, respectively, for the Hawks. Ben Adams reached double figures for the Bulldogs with 14 points.
