A father and son are in custody for the attempted theft of a trailer and livestock from Gallatin Livestock Auction on Nov. 25, 2008.

Paul Nathan Hutchison, 51, and Nathan Paul Hutchison, 28, both of New Hampton, were arrested Dec. 1, each charged with stealing animal, class D felony, theft/stealing, class C felony, and burglary second degree, class C felony. They are being held at the regional jail on $75,000 cash bond.

The probable cause statement reports that the subjects allegedly hitched up a 2005 stock trailer owned by Donald E. Hobbs, and loaded eight cows, 12 calves and one bull owned by Danny Froman. The cattle were valued at almost $8,000. The theft occurred at the Gallatin Sale Barn on West Grand Street in Gallatin.
