Filing dates for election of board members was set for December 16, 2008, through January 20, 2009, during the regular meeting of the Pattonsburg R-2 Board of Education held Monday, Nov. 17.

The board approved an increase in all meal prices by 25 cents beginning in January, 2009.
Breakfast at the elementary will be $1 ; high school $1.25; adults $2. Reduced breakfast will be 30 cents at the elementary and high school. Lunch at the elementary will be $1.50; high school $1.75; adults $2.75. Reduced lunch will be 40 cents at the elementary and high school.
Mrs. Brady announced that the Christmas program will be Monday, December 15. The elementary students will have a field trip to the nature center and B & J Skate Center on December 12, and go caroling at the Bethany nursing home on December 19.
New board member Tracy Parton took the oath of office to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Mrs. Diane Hulet.
Bills in the amount of $157,289.46 were approved for payment.
A "smoke busters" presentation was given by Paige Canaday, Katie Parton, and Courtney Warford. They presented the group’s goal of a "smoke free" campus and suggested it be phased into gradually. The group asked, and the board approved, that the first phase be to relocate the ashtray to outside the main entrance to the graveled area between the two cafeteria doors with a bench placed beside it. Linda Denton and Nichel Crone are the group sponsors.
Mrs. Cornett recognized Nichel Crone, Tuanette Hulet, Linda Denton, and Johnnie Silkett for their efforts in the student health fair that was held on October 29. She also expressed appreciation to Mrs. Brady for organizing the "hop-a-thon" in the elementary which was a benefit for a first grade student, Zachary Studer. The students raised $1,981.
Mr. Silkett spoke to the board about his recent trip to Denver, Colo., to attend the McRel Conference on "Reading in the Content Areas."
He reported that 71.8% of the students’ parents attended parent teacher conferences in the high school. He congratulated Justin Conover and Lindsey Lambert for their first and third place finishes in the district speech contest; shared the list of honor roll students for first quarter; acknowledged the FFA and NHS for their recent blood drive; expressed appreciation to Mr. Dreesen and the student council for sponsoring the Veteran’s Day celebration; and announced that Jasmine Swearingin and Courtney Warford had earned first and second place in the ninth grade division of the 2008 Missouri Recycles Day Poster Contest.
Mrs. Brady reported that parent-teacher conferences were a big success, having nearly every parent attend. She also shared first quarter honor roll students, as well as the top readers for each grade. These included Cameron Jones, Kaity Towell, Khayla Hollingsworth, Peyton Jones, Will McDaniel, Rheanna Gardner, and Geoffrey Hartley.
Core virtue students who demonstrated self control were Jimmie Nalle, Grace Warner, Makelle Hobson, Jasmine Holt, Brooklyn Worthey, Morgan Warner, and Megan Crone.
The BOE approved the budget amendments to the 2008-2009 budget.
The board entered into closed session.
