Members of GHS fall sports teams and activities were honored at the annual fall sports recognition banquet Nov. 14, 2008, in the GHS gymnasium.

Gallatin R-5 athletic director Rick Lin served as master of ceremonies and turned the microphone over to booster club treasurer Alicia Chrisman, who introduced fellow officers Janet Rhoades, president; Jean Mott, vice-president; and Diane McLey, secretary. Chrisman also reported on booster club activities, finances and membership.

Cheerleaders

Pam Critten, football cheerleader sponsor, introduced and recognized 2008 football cheerleaders Alex Burge, Kelly Critten, Sydney Elbert, Casey Sweatman and Tye Humphrey (4 yr. letter), Carly Boyd, Shelby Chadwick, Kaley Esbeck, Dannette Teel, Kristin Critten and mascot Maggie Strange.

Golf

Girls golf coach Dan McCann talked about the recently completed season. "We had two freshmen and two seniors who had never played before," he said. "They were up to the challenge and performed well," he added.

Earning golf letters were Mattie Burge, Sarah Smith, Lauren Taylor, Teresa Tairent and Sydney Elbert (captain), who earned all-conference and all-district honors, and was a state qualifier. Elbert was named team MVP and recognized as a four-year letter winner.

Softball

Softball Coach Casey Cole thanked assistant coach Denise Ray for her hard work and reviewed the Lady Bulldog softball season. "Nobody thought we would amount to what we did," she said of Gallatin’s 17-9 record and Class 2 district title.

2008 team members included Jennifer Acree, Carly Boyd (all-conference and district), Breanne Brammer, Ashley Burns, Savannah Butcher, Shelby Chadwick (all-conference), Nicole Everman (all-conference), Kaddie Mott, Becca Mott, Ashley Owens (all-conference, district and region), Courtney Ray (all-conference, district and region), Maggie Strange (all-conference, district, region and state) and Wren Tolen.

Strange received additional honors as most inspirational, most valuable player and "Come Through Kid." Everman and Butcher were named most improved players. Burns received the Rookie of the Year award. Kaddie Mott was recognized with the hustle award.

Football

Gallatin R-5 first-year head football coach Jeff White introduced his assistants, Daryl Hane, Robert Rosenbaum and Kevin Goltra, and talked about his team’s 3-7 campaign, which featured five losses by a touchdown or less, and four games against top ten ranked teams. "We’re graduating 14 seniors, so there are going to be a lot of holes to fill," he said. "We’re going to miss all these guys next year," he added.

Members of the 2008 Bulldog football team included: Matt Atkinson, Tyler Brackett, John Corwin, Brendon Cosgrove, Alex Critten (all-conference), Kyle Croy, Derrick Feigly, Nathan Gann, Jacob Gienapp (all-conference), Kale Hefley (all-conference), Dahton Holloway, Brandon Hunt, Dylan Leeper, Mitchell Lewis, Bo Malo, Myrick McLey, Levi Michener, Jason Moore, Brandon Ness, Keiten Newberry, Jordan Phelps, Matt Pottorff, Hunter Prentice, Robert Rhoades, Colton Selby (all-conference), Derrick Sprague (all-conference), Peter Steele, Sterling Steele, Derrick Teel (all-conference), Justin Taul, Quentin Trimm, Tyler Toney, Riley Vanatta and Terrill Wood.

Coach White announced members of the Class 1, All-District 14 honor squad. They are Gienapp (first team DE), Critten (first team LB), Selby (first team DB and honorable mention WR), Sprague (honorable mention DL), Trimm (honorable mention LB), Teel (honorable mention DB and first team WR), Feigly (first team OL), and Hefley (honorable mention QB).

Winners of football awards voted on by the team were: Teel, Iron Man; Wood, Practice Player of the Year; Hefley, Most Improved; and Selby, Heart and Desire. Coach White also recognized Gienapp as a four-year letter winner.

Colton Selby and Jacob Gienapp have also been named to the KMZU Radio Dream Team for 2008. Selby was also picked on the KAAN Radio All-Star Team.
